Our Story
Adventure Sunderland is a charitable trust, uniquely operating and partnered alongside Sunderland Marina. Based on Roker seafront we are ideally placed to offer a wide range of water sports and land based activities.

Established in 1996, taking over from the council operated Roker Water sports, we have developed into much more than a beach based water sports centre. We are now a fully operational outdoor education and activity centre and can provide services for everybody.

Mike is our centre manager, it’s his job to make sure everything runs smoothly. Mike calls upon many years of experience to do this, before Adventure Sunderland he was manager at ‘The Mill on The Brue’ and at ‘Outward Bound’ in Wales before then.
Mike holds qualifying awards in delivering all of our wide range activities and holds higher level awards in coaching canoeing and sea kayaking.
Mike loves to pass on his skills and knowledge to budding sea kayakers and really enjoys teaching young children all about our wonderful coastline as our Beach School teacher!
Jaz joined us in 2019, she has worked at a number of centres across the UK and Europe.
She has developed a passion for reviewing and personal development specifically Hard and soft skills to young people that our challenging activities can offer.

Her background also includes time working with some of the hardest to reach young people and managing the challenging behaviour associated with this client group. Her calm manner with which she discusses issues with these young people really comes across and helps ensure sessions run smoothly and the young people get maximum benefit from the activity.
Ben joined us in June 2021 he has been working as an activity instructor since 2017, which started out as a gap year and ended up being his desired career path.
Ben absolutely loves adventure, he has been climbing in Spain, wild camping on Snowdon.

Ben's favourite part of the job is meeting a variety of people, helping them overcome their fears or improving their skills.
Ben is looking forward to more challenges and building on his current skills at adventure Sunderland.
Cem joined us in the summer of 2021. Brining with him a wealth of knowledge and experience from working as a freelance instructor, throughout his career.
Cem has been fortunate to work all over the uk and Europe for various companies throughout his long career. Developing his qualifications along the way, he has a keen interest in white water kayaking, rock climbing and coasteering.
He can regularly be found maintaining our large fleet of Kayaks and canoes.
We have expanded to include many many different activities both on the water and on land, locally and further afield, indoors and out so everybody can find something for them. We give the people of Sunderland and further away, affordable access to adventurous activities.

Our mission is delivered by full-time, permanent staff who really know the area and our activities to ensure all desired outcomes are met. Our staff are all chosen for their wide range of experience, qualifications and skill in the activities we do – we don’t use trainees or volunteers to deliver sessions, just time served professionals.

Our equipment is all regularly renewed and updated to give our clients access to the best they can get. Our multi-million pound facilities complement this by giving a start-to-finish high quality experience.

Overall this has led to our client base expanding significantly year on year as people find out about us and realise the range, value for money and high quality of the service they will get with us.

We look forward to working with more folks wanting to get active and have adventures for many years to come!
